What has your journey with MAS been like so far?

My Journey at MAS has been so rewarding. When I started as a Behavioral Health Professional (BHP), I got to be part of the one-on-one work with our clients. Working closely with clients and watching them grow and change every day is truly amazing. When I became a Children’s Services Coordinator (CSC), I got to experience an entirely different side of MAS. As a CSC, I planned socials for our clients and BHPs, but I also got to learn and experience the intake process for new clients. Learning how to communicate, and work with people that are a part of the care team. Now, moving to be part of the recruitment team, I am learning how to interview, network, and hire individuals to become a valued part of our team! I am excited to help MAS grow its team and the communities we serve.

What was it like working as a BHP while going to school, and how has that experience prepared you for your career?

While attending college full time at the University of Maine, I was able to work for MAS as a Behavioral Health Professional! This not only allowed me to have a work schedule that worked with my classes but to gain experience and hands-on knowledge that I otherwise would not have had! I was able to take what I was learning in my classes and pair it with what I was learning and doing at work daily!

What piece of advice would you offer to others who are interested in working while going to school?

A schedule is your best friend. Working and going to school full time requires you to be organized! Time management is key, make sure you prioritize school work, and your work. This will help set you on the path to success personally and professionally.

What made you choose a career in the Community Health Industry?

Since I was young, I have always had a passion for helping others. Mental Health is a field that I have felt very passionate about, making sure others feel seen and heard is very important.

What do you think people need to know about working in the Community Health Industry?

Working in the community Health industry is not easy, but it is rewarding. Working day to day with clients is one of the best jobs I have ever had. There will be hard days, but when you watch a client meet, and succeed at their goals it’s an amazing feeling. Always remember to ask questions and use the resources available to you!

What is your favorite part of working with MAS Community Health?

Working at MAS Community Health has brought me new and various challenges that I never expected. Things that have helped me to grow and change as a person! The community and support from our team members are amazing.

If you could offer any advice to individuals looking for a career in Community Health, what would it be?

Add self-care to your daily routine. Make sure you always remember to take care of yourself first. In this field of work, it is easy to put others first and you cannot provide the best care to others if you are not caring for yourself too. You can’t fill a glass from an empty cup, and you have a team of support behind you. We are all here to help each other to be the best we can be for our clients!
